La Mexicana

La Mexicana
Bringing a piece of Mexico to Kuala Lumpur.
Without the clichés.
Authentic Mexican cuisine deserves a brand that is as rich and layered as the food itself. La Mexicana needed an identity that broke every tired stereotype in the book.

The Challenge
Mexican food is one of the most misrepresented cuisines in the world. Sombreros, maracas, burritos — the clichés are everywhere, and they do a disservice to one of the richest culinary traditions on earth.
When our client decided to bring genuinely authentic Mexican cuisine to the heart of Kuala Lumpur, they were not just opening a restaurant. They were making a statement. Their menu was carefully crafted, their ingredients often imported, and their environment deliberately free of the usual shortcuts. The brand had to match that ambition and speak to a Kuala Lumpur audience who deserved to understand what they were about to experience.

What we did
We created the full brand from scratch: name, logo, signage, stationery, and all communication materials. The name La Mexicana was chosen for its warmth and authenticity; original, confident, and free of the obvious signifiers.
The logo took its cues from the traditional colonial ironmongery found across Mexico; intricate, handcrafted, full of character. Its colour palette draws from the country’s rich textile tradition, bringing heat and depth without resorting to cliché. The accompanying imagery and iconography were drawn directly from decorative objects found on the premises, giving the brand a genuine connection to the physical space it inhabited.
